𝗟𝗔𝗥𝗚𝗢 is a short film that explores the refugee crisis through the eyes of a child. Our goal has not only been to tell a story that inspires empathy for refugees, but to do so in a way that breaks through echo chambers.
In his acting debut, 𝗭𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗘𝗹𝘀𝗼𝗸𝗮𝗿𝗶 brings vulnerability, courage, and an unshakeable sense of adventure to the lead role, making it impossible for any audience not to feel responsible for our young protagonist – even audiences who are not already supportive or welcoming of refugees. But this isn’t a one-sided narrative. The film explores the reasons why the refugee crisis has divided communities and humanises both sides of the debate – which are embodied by legendary British actors 𝗧𝗮𝗺𝘀𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗴 (Episodes, Friday Night Dinner) and 𝗞𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗰𝗡𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 (Pirates Of The Caribbean).

Film Carnage: Review
“Extremely relevant and captures how harsh immigration policies are changing the UK for the worse … Max Burgoyne-Moore and Salvatore Scarpa capture these issues with a lot of sensitivity … it doesn’t get caught up in sentimentality … but also doesn’t shy away from making it child friendly and gentle.”

Film Threat Review
“Largo is a sweet and charming title … it looks hopefully toward the future, finding value in community and what immigrants can bring to it.”

BEYOND FESTIVALS
To engage younger audiences, who might not be familiar with these complex issues and are less likely to attend film festivals, we’re taking 𝗟𝗔𝗥𝗚𝗢 directly into schools across the UK. Screenings will be paired with educational workshops to create a space for meaningful conversations and fresh perspectives.
Authenticity has been at the heart of this project. We worked closely with charities like the 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗴𝗲𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 and members of the refugee community to ensure the story rings true. We also piloted a trainee scheme in collaboration with the charity 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 that gave individuals with refugee status paid roles in every production department. By opening up opportunities for ‘displaced creatives’, we hope this initiative can grow and inspire other film and TV projects to follow suit.
𝗟𝗔𝗥𝗚𝗢 is a short film that’s as exciting as it is thought-provoking, with a powerful message about the importance of empathy that we believe will resonate with audiences around the world. We can’t wait to share it with you.
